Abstract

Today tourism has become a popular socio-economic phenomenon not only in developed countries but also in emerging economies including Vietnam. Keeping pace with the country's innovation over the past 20 years, the tourism industry has been developing and has many remarkable achievements. Tourism expenditures, visitor numbers, income, the share of GDP, and employment have confirmed the role of the tourism industry in Vietnam's economy. On the basis of actual survey results and document analysis, the article will focus on analyzing and clarifying the potentials and advantages of tourism development in Vietnam, thereby identifying the key  demand groups that orient the tourism industry and development in the near future. At the same time, the dissertation  proposes solutions on how to rationally, effectively and sustainably exploit the tourism resources of this region, contributing to developing the tourism industry to become the main economic sector of Vietnam.
