Terrorism, which has become increasingly prevalent in recent years, is one of the most serious issues impacting the tourist sector. The objective of this dissertation is to evaluate the connection between terrorism and tourism and explore the relationship between terrorist incidents and destination image, consumer behavior, and risk perception, as well as the influence of mass media on travelers’ decision-making process. Moreover, the thesis aims to discover effective Crisis Management policies. The study offers a comprehensive theoretical framework about the various concepts surrounding both terrorism and tourism. Previous studies had confirmed that terrorist crises severely impact the destination image as well as tourist inflows to a destination. The main data collection instrument for the research is the online survey method, which is supplemented by thorough secondary research, with mixed-method data analysis. The author designed a set of questionnaire regarding terrorism-related issues that contained 26 close-ended questions and which was filled out by 120 respondents. The case study methodology concentrating on Sharm-El-Sheikh, Egypt is also used to achieve a deeper understanding of the implications of terror incidents on destinations. Based on the findings of the study it can be concluded that terrorism has an adverse influence on tourist demand, although the intensity of the consequences is dependent on a number of factors. Safety is the most important factor when opting for a holiday destination among travelers, and negative image perception can lead to cancellations and unwillingness to travel to areas where the deemed risk of terrorism is higher. Negative media influences the attitudes of visitors, media broadcasts showcasing such destinations tend to exaggerate the actual risk. Increased security measures and flexible cancellation policies are thought to be the most effective Crisis Management policies based on the findings of the primary research. Further research needs to be carried out in order to discover what concrete safety procedures travelers consider to be effective to feel safe at a risky-perceived destination. Finally, several recommendations are provided in order to improve future efficiency.
