Absztrakt (kivonat)

After China's accession to the World Trade Organization in the beginning of the new millennium, its role in the world economy has become more significant and visible, and as a result, at the present time, the country is a major participant in international trade. Of particular interest in this regard is the trade and economic relations between China and the European Union, which have been steadily and more and more actively developing over the past two decades and have become one of the most important and largest in the world. As China's integration into the world economic community and its foreign economic expansion intensified, its role as a global exporter was strengthened, which led to a progressive negative trade balance of the European Union. Coupled with the dumping of Chinese state-owned companies and the lack of transparency of the Chinese closed and highly regulated market in terms of access for foreign direct investment, the European Union realized the need for a regulatory settlement of economic relations with China in order to correct the progressive negative trends. To maintain constructive cooperation, the EU-China 2020 Strategic Agenda for Cooperation was signed in 2013. The most important provision of this initiative was the development of the Comprehensive Agreement on Investment between the two Parties, which aims to smooth out imbalances in the conditions of market access and ensure uniform rules for investment regulation and dispute resolution. Therefore, the current work is aimed to investigate the development of economic and trade cooperation between China and the European Union and analyze how the planned investment agreement will help to break down barriers to market entry for European investment and what is its value-added in comparison with already existing trade regulations.
