Absztrakt (kivonat)

Shared service centres (SSC) in Hungary have been continuously expanding in headcount, services portfolio and value-added since the late 1990s and they are considered of great national economic importance. Since the start of the covid-19 pandemic SSCs in general managed the sudden switch to remote work quite smoothly, in many cases people have been showing even improving productivity results. This research investigates a particular group of 46 people working in a Budapest based HR services centre that also indicated improving productivity results during remote work. The paper intends to uncover the reasons behind increasing productivity focusing on teams within these 46 people in order provide another empirical evidence to the literature body and to support that group with practical suggestions for improvement. Data collection was built around a methodological triangulation approach. In order to draw valid and credible conclusions, both qualitative and quantitative data were collected from three different levels of observers, combined with the relevant literature. Results were presented in six main topics and then they were summarized in the framework of a force field analysis. In general research results confirmed literature findings. Specifically to the observed group, the most significant encouraging factors to productivity are private life related. Interestingly, qualitative data on team member level put socializing as the biggest barrier to productivity, while from team leader level it was mentioned that communication barriers might be more decisive. Distractions at home turned out to be very diverse, however, the biggest distractions in the office are clearly background noise and colleagues. In the future similar studies are suggested to be conducted on a larger sample within the same company or in other SSCs in order to draw generalizable conclusions.
