Absztrakt (kivonat)

Along with political and economic diplomacy, cultural diplomacy is identified as one of the three pillars of the current diplomacy of China. Thus, besides having increased its hard power both economically and militarily, China is paying greater attention to its soft power, especially its cultural strength, which has the ability to spread persistently and to have a lasting effect. Since 1991, China and ASEAN have established official diplomatic relations, and these nations are seen as close neighbors, and also a region of strategic importance in pursuit of increasing China's international status. Especially, while the U.S concentrated on fighting terrorism and human rights issues, lacking attention and not having a consistent policy in this region, China became well aware of the importance of soft power and constantly improved China-ASEAN cooperation. This study attempts to prove how important soft power by spreading cultural influences is to China’s policy as well as its international position. The paper will present in practice, China has demonstrated soft power in various aspects, especially in Asia, where China has the most home advantages. During the Chinese Communist Party congresses, cultural diplomacy has been affirmed as one of the most important parts of China’s soft power diplomacy and China’s diplomatic career has accomplished remarkable achievements. However, this paper will also look at some of the current territorial issues along with diplomatic restrictions have brought about challenges and new tasks for the Chinese government. Still, it is hard to deny the fact that the influence of Chinese culture in ASEAN countries is increasing day by day not only in the region but also all over the world.
