Absztrakt (kivonat)

In this paper an effort was put forward to describe the cultural tourism in the South Caucasus as a functional whole, through the lens of sustainable development of cultural tourism in the region. The reason for choosing this topic has to do with the newly formed, more stabilized geopolitical situation in Transcaucasia, as a result of the Second Karabakh war. Within the framework of this conversation, special focus was placed on the tools, methods, standards, and recommendations of international organizations in the direction of building a sustainable cultural tourism through introspection, cooperation and peaceful cross-cultural dialogue. Among these methods, heritage interpretation was brought forward as an important learning mechanism that can be utilized to understand the importance of respectful and sensitive management of heritage sites and use of interpretive tools to construct more peaceful narratives around cultural heritage especially in the case of armed conflicts and military intervention.
