Absztrakt (kivonat)

Meanwhile, there is the high labors need in the global tourism market. Many universities around the world strive to create hospitality and tourism programs in order to accommodate the rapidly increasing popularity of the hospitality and tourism management (HTM) field in higher education. The main purpose of this study is to observe the motivation of Lao students why they want to major in Hospitality and Tourism Management program at Savannakhet University, Laos. Besides that, study is to 1.) Investigate the motivations of students to choose in HTM. 2.) Attempts to examine statistically the differences between genders, age groups who are studying HTM, and investigates the most important reasons that drives students to study HTM. 3.) Study factors that drive students to study in HTM at Savannakhet University. Moreover, this study also makes some comparisons for Lao students’ motivation who choose to study aboard (students who study at BBS, Hungary). Study uses online survey as the research tool for collecting data from 139 students at Savannakhet University, Laos. Online survey is completely filled out by 83% of all students at Svavannaket University, and 100 % completed by 17 Lao students at BBS, Hungary. Statistical Package of Social Sciences (SPSS) program is used for analyzing data, and the descriptive analysis of frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation are conducted for all the quantitative items in the questionnaire to explore motivation levels of students to study HTM at Savannakhet University and BBS respectively. The results show that factors of social status, and special interest are the most important factors influencing students to study HTM at Savannakhet University, and students would like to experience a new culture in the foreign country as the most important factor that motives Lao students to study at BBS, Hungary. Finally, study is recommended that a future study is needed to include more tertiary institutions, that offers tourism and hospitality programs
