Abstract

The United Nations served as a stage to India to achieve the goals related to foreign policy and relations. The changing priorities of India’s political leaders, the contest to harmonize personal interests with objective principles, forming and being a consistent part of nonalignment group and lastly delicacy to the prevailing international order have contributed to a mixture of performance for India in the world’s largest international organization. In its agenda of new century which is full of complex topics and long-pending issues, It’s participation is focused mainly on strengthening of UN in dealing more diligently with non-traditional security threats which include cross-border terrorism, promoting collection action in the globalized world to minimize the economic inequalities and lastly but most importantly the reformation of United Nations structure especially the Security Council. Its invaluable contribution to various groups of UN in achieving its principle objectives makes it one of the most suitable candidates for a permanent member of UNSC. Its increasing economic, military and space power along with strong political leadership is paving its way to get what it deserves in the coming years. In regard to its future strategy, the chances of re-playing the role its past leadership has been playing is very less probable and there are high chances that its current political leadership is not at all hesitant to take the aggressive approach in achieving what it could not have been achieved during last 73 years by following a defense approach.
