Absztrakt (kivonat)

Banking services. Everyone uses one, everyone needs one. But is the current monetary system our only option?  More and more people choose different FinTech companies’ services instead, or on top of their existing bank accounts.  Finding out why, the advantages and disadvantages of this,  is the main aim of this study, as well as discover the possible future effects it may have on the banking sector.  To provide some background information, I also discussed the history, origins, nature and functions of money, as well as the different standards of value and the monetary theory, because these informations are key to understand why and how today’s monetary system came to be, and therefore how it can change as our world and technology develops faster and faster every day.    For my research I used the qualitative method to collect secondary data. Descreptive method was used to summarize and analyse the findings of the thesis,  In my research I used books, publications and also some internet sources to gather a thorough and deep understanding of my topic, and to support my already existing knowledge regarding these topics.  Based on the findings of this study, it is clear that traditional banking services will not cease to exist as more and more FinTech companies offer the same, or similar services.  However, they had lost their monopoly of the sector, and as new and new competitors show up, banks, for the first time in human history, have to come up with new innovations, technologies, and methods to make their services simpler, faster, more accessible.Revolut will probably never be anyone’s only bank account, and it does not need to be. They are here for now to inspire growth and new ideas in the banking sector. Of course, as everything, they do have advantages and disadvantages as well, but for now, they can be a geat option for anyone who wants a fast and easy method of managing their finances, who already has an existing bank account.
