Abstract
Problem What facilities, instruments, ways or strategies exist for the prospects of Gyula Castle Bath of South-East Hungary in the post-COVID era in order to remain the same competitive as before? Aim The aim of the paper is to introduce health tourism concepts and services through one of the most popular Hungarian wellness and spa tourism centers in Gyula of South-East Hungary. Health tourism (as this concept is used in Hungary for spa and wellness) services in Gyula constitute the strategic leading tourism product of South-East Hungary thanks to the advantageous physical geographical characteristics and also to its positive impacts on seasonality so the aim of the author is to suggest optimism that such a wellness and spa tourism center as Gyula has every reason to hope that travellers will continue to seek out health and wellness retreats in Gyula to the same extent in the post-COVID era as before, to build their immunity. Approach/methods The author of the paper basically used secondary data sources of recent tourism development and marketing documents, as well as part of the desk research including the relevant comprehensive research papers of Hungarian and foreign tourism experts and professionals. Results The author of the thesis predicts that Gyula Castle Bath will be able to keep its outstanding place even in the post-COVID era based on the great number of strengths and opportunities of its SWOT analysis, its recent comprehensive development plan with a grant of HUF 2.5 billion in the near future, the positive experience of the tourist season in Gyula before the 2nd wave of Coronavirus disease, the fact that the water of the pools (not that of the spa) can be chlorinated for disinfecting, the obligatory hygiene, the responsible behaviour and the use of proper precaution measures taken in connection with the pandemic. Conclusion This summer of 2020 was a much stronger tourist season in all Békés county including Gyula and the tourists who want to travel also during or after the 2nd wave of the epidemics, will again choose such a domestic destination far from congestions and crowds or will want to return to this special place, especially the ones who have already gained positive experiences here.
