Absztrakt (kivonat)

This research aimed to know the impact of the war on the tourism industry in Syria and the prospect for post-war tourism development. In particular, this research focus to know and understand the condition of post-war tourism in Syria, the potential for post-war tourism in Syria, and give the strategic recommendation for post-war tourism development in Syria             This research used qualitative research to get data about the current condition of Syrian tourism, the impact of war on the Syrian tourism sector, and the strategy planned by the government. This study collected the primary data through an interview with responsible tourism stakeholders in Syria. Further, secondary data from news, journals, and government statistics were collected to support the analysis. For the data analysis of this research, SWOT analysis is applied to analyze the strength, weakness, opportunities, and threat of post-war tourism development of Syria.             From the research, it is observed that the war had led to a significant decline in the tourism industry in Syria. In addition, this research highlighted strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats to tourism development in Syria in the post-war period. The strength of Syria tourism is the friendliness of the local people, the richness of cultural heritage and value, as well as the diversity of natural landscape. Those weaknesses are: negative image due to conflict, poor infrastructure condition, lack of access, lack of skilled human resources, and destruction of cultural heritage. Meanwhile, the opportunities for Syrian tourism are: stability in the country, a growing trend of dark tourism, and a growing domestic market. In addition, the threats are: terrorist attacks, political instability, economic crisis, and limitation of international travel. From those analyses, there are some suggested strategies for the development of tourism in Syria in the post-war period, those are: focus on infrastructure development, focus on peacebuilding and conflict resolution, focus on domestic tourism, and development of new tourism product.
