Absztrakt (kivonat)

The paper investigates, how the United Arab Emirates and Dubai managed to build up a luxury touristic paradise in less, than 30 years. In the 1970s inhabitants found oil in the region and the country quickly became wealthy by exporting it. Later in the 1990s the governments decided to invest in a benefiting and sustainable sector, which was travel and tourism. They spent all of their revenue from the oil and built many hotels, even luxury hotels, sights, shopping centres and entertainment facilities. In addition they have expanded their infrastructure, which was one of the most important things in case building a main touristic destination. There were four research questions, regarding, how the United Arab Emirates and Dubai became one of the most important touristic destination, how they can react to the touristic trends, how the GDP and commerce developed over the years, and what are the people thinking of Dubai the UAE and also their needs and expectations towards the country.I made my research over the demand side of tourism. Many data could be found in books, on the UNWTO (United Nations World Tourism Organization), the WTTC (World Travel and Tourism Concuil) and also on the site of the Dubai Statistical Offices. I compared the data to my research, to see if there is still a huge demand regarding travelling to Dubai and the United Arab Emirates.I made a focused group interview through an online survey to see, what are the trends and expectations today and how could Dubai and the UAE could react to these trends. I asked several questions over the habits of tourists, and how could Dubai react to these needs and expectations. The results are promising and the data from the interview and the data from other sources have shown Dubai and the UAE is a good example to follow.
