Absztrakt (kivonat)

The purpose of this paper is to find out if employers still resistant to hire employees with visible body modifications in order to understand the effects of tattoos and piercings might have on the work-life of an employee and on the dining experience of a customer. A three-point study was conducted with the aim of collecting different perspectives. The general public, employees with visible body modifications who work in the hospitality industry, along with managers of restaurants and various departments of hotels were approached during the research. Online surveys were used to comprehend the work experiences of employees and the viewpoint of customers on the topic. The data collection of the managers was conducted through online interviews. Based on the opinion of the vast majority of people visible body modifications do not have an unfavourable effect on the dining experience, which is consistent with the experiences of the workers as the greater number of employees claimed to experience indifferent attitudes both from employers and guests. Nevertheless, there are still a large number of exceptions who think negatively about these alterations. As the present research revealed, companies including managers, for the most part, are still hesitant to hire employees with visible body modifications, as a consequence of the particular image and policies of the business. However, this resistance is not against the body-modified individuals, but most companies believe that such an appearance is not proper in a prestigious place.
