Absztrakt (kivonat)

This thesis bears the title of ‘The History and the Types of Financial Crises and the Theories behind them’ and ought to inspect the theoretical and economical background of financial crises on multiple levels and aspects. Also, the dissertation aims to inspect the current global economic trends and call out any potential gaps and possibility for the next financial crisis, while actively implementing the theories and aspects which we examine in the dissertation.The dissertation approaches the topic with an analytical view and does not explicitly inspect the historical background. Obviously, historical references of great financial crises will be called out as examples, but it is not our aim to inspect them in a broader regard. Thus, our hypothesis and the research questions in terms of this dissertation will not bear a great amount of magnitude. Amongst them we will call out clear and broad questions which will allow the dissertation to explain ideas, theories and mechanisms freely as needed. Also, as every academic research, this dissertation cannot be exempt of creating a clear and well framed methodology by defining research- approach, philosophy, strategy, design data and limits – in which part, the necessary literature review will be embedded and will be described as research data.After the elements of clarification, the dissertation will aim the vertical axis of financial crises, meaning that the study will inspect the main categories which are used to describe different financial situations. Amongst them it analyzes banking crises or bank runs where notable examples and main definitive framework will be explained in detail, as well as it will be for the currency crisess and to the financial bubbles and speculative crashes. After a detailed analysis on the vertical axis, we will inspect financial crises on the horizontal line too: just as the vertical study, the horizontal analysis will contain an examination of related examples and a through methodological description of national crises also known as sovereign defaults, international financial cries and last but not least about wider economic crashes, such as depressions and recessions. In the respective chapters, we will clarify the related definitions, and as such, the literature review for each embedded to the chapter itself.At the third, separate chapter we will take a lookout on what is happening – to be specific what has happened during the months of creating this very dissertation, and how a next potential declinein the global economy is in the horizon. We will specifically describe the facts which precedes and determines the next financial crises. Inevitably to do this – as the situation literally unfolds now, just as we speak – we will rely on online news and articles and examine what we find in them. The dissertation will actively seek to describe the horizontal and the vertical type of the crises and implement the elements of the study to them, to understand the magnitude of the next financial crisis ahead.In the closing chapters – we will recur our hypotheses and the related research question and explicitly answer each giving a circle-like character to the study. This last chapter is finished by a summary, where I would like to express my own opinion over the topic freely and explicitly.
