Absztrakt (kivonat)

In my thesis I have taken up the task of improving the competitiveness of a 3PL service provider, namely Intercargo Hungary Kft., an SME. I have researched the different types of classifications of 3PL providers to see if there are any practises, strategies or communications of the company that can be improved on or changed. I have sat down with the management of the company to make a S.W.O.T. analysis examining the current position of the company and to perhaps find weaknesses. I can safely say that I have done everything within the limitations of this thesis to find every possibility to improve Intercargo’s competitiveness. First, I have researched different types of classifications of 3PL providers in order to acquire knowledge on how the 3PL industry is split. I have focused mainly on management, communication and operations type classifications. Next I have positioned Intercargo in these classifications. After knowing where the company fits into these classifications, I was able to draw conclusions on what to keep and what to change in the company purely according to the theoretical background. Next, I have thoroughly examined the company, focusing on the effects of the loss of Caterpillar business. This overview of the company helped understand correlations between loss of business and loss of competitiveness. In my overview I have found evidence supporting the claims of the huge losses of the company related to the loss of Caterpillar business. Analysis of this evidence has shown that the company did not change in mentality nor performance only size and revenue. Afterwards, I have prepared a S.W.O.T. analysis to examine the current state of the company and find weaknesses to improve on. This analysis was prepared with the inclusion of my adviser at the company and the management. This analysis helped me to find problems small and big that can be improved on. From all the above information I have made conclusions and suggestions for the company. I have then arranged these suggestions into short, mid and long-term development, taking into consideration the current state of the company. I have thoroughly examined all aspects of the company and have made all suggestions derived from my findings.
