Introduction I have been interested in history and historic events since studying it in elementary school, and the idea of writing about dark tourism came from the same interest. I was looking for a topic that includes the past in some ways, and heritage tourism, disaster tourism, cultural tourism, war tourism and several other forms of tourism can be included in it, which all are highly interesting and exciting topics in my eyes. Also, after reading some early information about the field of dark tourism, I found out that it is lacking in research, which meant another reason to use this topic in my thesis. I personally had not heard about the term ‘dark tourism’ until I was looking for a thesis topic, and neither had any of my acquaintances, so another factor that motivated me to write about it was to contribute to the spreading of its word, and to investigate people’s thoughts about it. Also, I would like to find out what motivates dark tourists to visit the related sites. I have constructed some assumptions as well for the thesis, which are the followings: 1.       The term ‘dark tourism’ is not widely known 2.       The motivation factors of dark tourists differ from the traditional tourists’ I would like to use a quantitative research method in order to collect the necessary information, because my intention is to find out the attitude to this topic of a great number of people. The exact method that will be used is a questionnaire. Structure: I will start my thesis with an introduction, where I describe the reasons why I chose this topic. The structure of the dissertation and the used research method would also be explained here. The next chapter will be the literature review, which presents the important literature relating the topic in several pages. I would like to explain the basic definitions of tourism, of dark tourism, and show some examples of dark tourism sites of today, which information can help the reader in understanding the concept. The next part would deal with the main question of the thesis, which is the motivation factors of dark tourists. The structure would be built up in a logical order. Starting with the basic motivation factors of people in general, following with the same factors of the ones participating in traditional tourism. The literature review will continue with the motives of dark tourists, presenting the most relevant theories and studies. Some other factors that can influence people’s destination making process will also be listed and described. The literature review will be followed by the research methodology part, where a description about the possible and most commonly used research methods would be shown, with the one that is used for this thesis. Also, a list of the limitations of the research will take place in this chapter. One of the most important parts of the thesis will take place in the next chapter. The respondents’ answers and the received data will be presented and explained here with the help of different types of charts. This would be an objective description of the results of the questionnaire, with some possible early conclusions drawn in connection with the literature review. The next chapter will be presenting the conclusions drawn after the research, with explaining the most important relations between the literature review and the results of the research. The main part of the thesis will be ended with a summary. Here, obviously, I would like to summarize the content of the thesis, and close it. The additional parts of the paper, such as the bibliography and appendix will be taking place on the last pages of the dissertation.
