Abstract

Sustainable development became a must for all businesses. Our planet suffering from severe consumption and high level of pollution which raised a red alert to take immediate sustainable and responsible action. Taking into consideration that the common trends nowadays encourage all businesses to act sustainably especially after the increasing awareness in the society of the importance of sustainability. Nowadays many firms and companies try to follow and apply the sustainable approaches in their marketing plans and practices, But the essential question is the volume of consumption, which is the contrary of sustainability. So, if we want to start thinking of how to act more responsible, from the consumption factor, it’s good to choose the hospitality sector as one of the biggest areas of consumption and employment. The aim of this thesis is to study the sustainable practices in the hotels belonging to the Accor company located in Budapest focusing on food waste management, with an attempt to compare and analyze the similarities and differences and see how can the method be applied and improved in the other hotels and small firms. It means beside these applied practices for new technologies to reduce and treat the amount of wastes produced, also the importance and the way of educating. It’s very important to realize that our responsibility is not only towards the nature, but also towards the economy and society because there are thousands of people suffering from hunger while we generate huge amounts of food wastes.   ·         Key words Hospitality, Food waste, Management, Sustainability, Hungary, Organization, development.
