During the end of the last decade, the world has braced for an unprecedented economic crisis , assumed as the largest global economic crisis in the recent history , almost a century after the Great depression in 1930. The latter is related to the crisis of the US real estate markets and more specifically to the subprime. Hence the financial crisis began with the establishment of all the subprime system. A subprime is a risk credit that banks offer to borrowers who do not have sufficient collateral. Indeed, it is considered one of the main banking risks. Given the extent of the subprime crisis and its transmission to the banking and financial sector, many questions about the exposure of the European economy have emerged. European banks have been directly affected by the subprime crisis, European financial markets have suffered significant losses, there are signs of a possible housing bubble in several Member States and the decoupling of the US and European economies seems unlikely. Seemingly, as, The crisis spread in southern, EU-Mediterranean countries such as Portugal, Greece and Cyprus, before Spain and Italy were less severely affected. Despite years of crisis and solutions that have saved the victimized countries, especially Greece and Portugal, the specter still exists. Reviewing the causes, forms and consequences of the financial crisis and its broad impact on especially Greece which is my focus sample, this thesis draws several conclusions making it possible to establish a number of proposals on which we could rely to limit negative effects and draw lessons for the future.
