Mongolia is a rapidly developing country and has abundant natural resources. The important objective of the thesis is to measure the effects of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and the effects of doing business on FDI of Mongolia. The thesis will provide introduction to Mongolia’s current economic situation and FDI inflows, the ease of doing business and including its political and legislative environment. In this thesis, it sought to answer the following questions. 1. What are the major important factors and impacts of FDI in Mongolia? 2. What lessons can Mongolia learn from the experience of other developing countries? 3. What are the problems that investors face at the present? 4. How do the doing business indicators influence on FDI in Mongolia? At present, Mongolia faces with many challenges related to creating favorable environment for attracting foreign investments. These investments are very much-needed in order to accelerate the effective and urgent usage of mineral deposits and the agricultural capacities (e.g the red meat industry) of the country. That could contribute to the more rapid development of Mongolia. The thesis consists of 4 chapters. Chapter 1 describes the theories of FDI and background information concerning ease of doing business. Chapter 2 analyzes the economic situation of Mongolia and current conditions of foreign direct investments in Mongolia. Chapter 3 analyzes the effects of doing business in Mongolia and compared them with other the lower middle-income countries. Chapter 4 describes the legislative and regulatory condition of the FDI in enterprises and major areas where foreign investments are made. To provide an overview, it also includes a case study on Mongolian mining industry which is the main attraction for FDI in Mongolia.
