Nowadays, some hospitality companies are facing major challenges such as high employee turnover rate and low return on investment. At the same time, some others are improving and opening new properties each year. It is interesting to see why one company becomes more successful than another. During the period when we needed to choose the topic for the dissertation, I was doing my official industrial placement at Four Seasons Hotel Gresham Palace Budapest. The Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts is the world-famous luxury hotel chain renowned for its exceptional customer service. It is also glorious for its strong corporate culture, having been listed in “The Best Companies to Work for” rating by Fortune magazine every consecutive year since 1998. Moreover, this company has one of the lowest employee turnover rates in the whole hospitality industry. All these above-mentioned facts led me to a thought that corporate culture might play a fundamental role in the success of the organization. And, in any kind of business, indisputably the human capital is the most important asset and the greatest value in achieving its competitive advantage. Therefore, I found it very useful to conduct an investigation whether or not organizational culture has any impact on retaining highly committed employees. Organizational culture was chosen as the main research area due to my personal interest and also owing to the fact that corporate culture has grown significantly in importance for the business world and has been widely discussed over the last decades. The investigation of the dissertation is based on the case study at Four Seasons Hotel Budapest, luxury five-star hotel. In order to collect proper results both qualitative and quantitative research methods were applied by conducting an interview and a questionnaire as data collection instruments.
