Synopsis The terminology of the new Middle East includes the group of strategies which were established by the strategic and research center of the United States, which aims to create a vision of a dominant future for the US. Although, there is lack of resources around the project of the “New Middle East”, most of these resources consider the project as an imperial American strategy to change the Middle East, in order to create a peaceful atmosphere which won’t give the chance for other countries potential powers to rise and to keep on the unipolar position for the interest of the US. Iraq was the first step to create this project. However, the American domination over the area was not successful. In fact, the peaceful project that the United States was trying to create collapsed, as in Iraq, the situation currently is the worst. The increase of complications, besides the changing position of the US, led to new diplomatic agreements with Iran. The US considers Iran as one of the most dangerous countries in the Middle East, and in the world. While diplomatic agreements, beside nuclear reserves, deals between both countries were set. The reasons of the invasion of Iraq by the US were not fulfilled. The new discourse, the US created in the Middle East such as, democracy, liberation, and Arab Spring was misused against the will of the United States. As the war against terrorism, the new strategies against Muslims in general weakened the alliance between the countries of the Middle East and created a situation of anger and unity against the United States by some of the Middle Eastern countries. The rise of new great and strong nations and organizations in the world, such as the European Union, China, Japan, and India, are changing the unipolar system in the world. After the cold war, The United States of America dominated the world politically and economically. Recently, the US is facing an economic and political competition by other rising countries which limits its ability to control the whole world according to its interest, as there are other poles, which can affect the situation in different areas. The foreign policy of the United States in the Middle East “The New Middle East” is the title of this research. Although, the title sounds direct, the details of this research are deep and complex. The United States of America is a great power as any other great power in the history, regardless of the difference in methods and techniques related to the development of power and these methods. The current situation of the international arena is characterized with anarchy, and the distribution of power and capabilities. The United States witnesses itself as the most powerful part country in the world, which can be both the dominant and the collaborator. It has all the economic, military, technology, intellectual capabilities that any state requires to become the greatest power. The main purpose of the foreign affairs of the United States is unipolarity, and to guarantee its existence as much as possible. the current complicated situation of the Middle East and backwardness are not because of the dependency to the West, or just because of the external western role, which led to the fragmentation and backwardness of the Arab world. Many factors played an important role in the current situation of the Middle East including the previous factors. On one hand, the United States distinguished between the Islamic fundamentalists and the moderate Islam. During the presidency of Obama, he was always trying to avoid to mention Islam with radicalism. On the other hand, the current president of the United States Donald Trump, is against Obama’s policies with the Islamic world, especially in the Middle East. Despite the success of the US army to end the regime of Saddam Husain in Iraq, the “Mission accomplished” speech by the US president Bush, and the promising initiative of the implementation of the project of the “Greater Middle East”. That plan was not completely successful, and the US began to lose control over the area. In fact, the US army hung in Iraq, and faced the rise of Iraqi resistance, guerrilla, civil war, besides, the rise of the Islamic extremist movements, which became uncontrollable even by the US military. As a result, the plan of the United States was doubted by the American citizens and by the whole world. In conclusion, the main purpose of this research is to analyze the foreign policy of the United States in the Middle East. The research contains three main parts, in order to come up with conclusions. First, it discusses the social, political, and intellectual situation in the Middle East. Second, it elaborates on the position of the United States in the Middle East. Finally, it examins the foreign policy of the United States in the Middle East during the 21st century. The discussion of the previous three parts, that this research include, will lead to the genreal purpose of this research, the situation of the current international system, and the position of the United States in that system.
